Nature of Complaint

Complainant raised concerns around the conduct of the Registrant at a medical appointment on behalf of a deaf client. Allegations include that the Registrant took a photograph from the doctor's screen of the deaf client's medical records without consent when the doctor left the room, they gave the deaf client their business card without being invited, and subsequently left the appointment leaving the deaf client without an interpreter for their ongoing appointment. These actions caused considerable distress and confusion for the deaf client.

Summary

Investigation conducted into potential breach of Section 1.1, 6.1 and 6.2 of NRCPD's Code of Conduct. Investigation obtained statements from the doctor and booking agency.

Outcome

Case Examiners decided based on the evidence provided, that there was a realistic prospect of finding an impairment of fitness to practice, and that it was in the public interest to refer the case to a Complaints Committee. The matter was subsequently heard before a Complaints Committee who found that the facts presented supported two allegations but that they were not so serious as to meet the threshold to amount to statutory misconduct.
