Nature of Complaint |
The complaint related to a remote training session in February 2021, Registrant along with a Co-Worker was present to support the Complainant. Allegations were that the Registrant was out of their depth with understanding, content, and proficiency in English and BSL. Allegations included that the Registrant omitted some of what was being said, their interpretation lacked language structure, they dropped key terms and over-simplified language as well as fingerspelling incorrectly. This caused the Complainant stress and they felt little was gained form the training due to the interpreting. |
Summary |
Investigation conducted into potential breach of Section 1.3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.2, 6.1 and 7.3 of NRCPD's Code of Conduct. Witness Statement obtained from the Co-Worker present. |
Outcome |
Case Examiners decided based on the evidence provided, that there was realistic prospect of finding an impairment of fitness to practice, but it was not in the public interest to refer the case to a Complaints Committee. Case Examiners offered the Registrant supportive advice. The Registrant was asked to arrange a session of professional supervision to review and critically reflect on the assignment and the impact of the issues raised for all concerned. The Case Examiners recommended that the Registrant engage in opportunities to discuss their broader understanding, approaches to and implementation of critical reflective practice, as well as approaches and strategies to co-working. The Case Examiners did note that the Agency in this case did have some responsibility due to their communications and lack of preparation material supplied. |
