External Representation and Upcoming Meetings

On 23 May the NRCPD Director, Alan Peacock, met the Chief Executive and Directors of the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD) at their offices in Colchester www.royaldeaf.org.uk . RAD's mission is to promote equality for Deaf people through the provision of accessible services. Alan provided an update on the role and work of NRCPD, and its recent change to independent status. The discussion then focussed on how the Code of Conduct informs the professional conduct and practice of registered communication professionals; and how Deaf people, or their representatives, can complain or raise concerns about registered practitioners if there is a problem, or something goes wrong.

The next NRCPD Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 11 July.

Review of National Occupational Standards (NOS) in interpreting

In the March newsletter, we reported that the NOS Steering Group would be meeting on 24 March to discuss the draft revised NOS. Following this meeting, a final consultation draft has been prepared, together with an online survey, which will be sent to all registered practitioners in early June. The survey will be open for four weeks. NRCPD will be sending out a link to the survey; however, survey responses should be returned to Instructus Skills, which is managing the review of the standards.

Special Yoga Foundation

The Special Yoga Foundation is a charity based in Brent Council (London W10) providing therapeutic yoga to children and adults with special needs. Recently they have embarked on a challenge to create an ad hoc training programme: Deaf Yoga Teacher Training. With this in mind they are looking for four volunteer interpreters to help lead a pilot session that is being filmed at the end of June to enable Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to access information on the course via the website. If you are interested in supporting this project and for more information on how to contact them please follow the link below:
